  • Shrimp Salad with Avocado & Grapefruit

    For the shrimp

    1 lb of large peeled and de-veined shrimp

    3 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

    3 tbsp. lemon juice

    1 clove of garlic, minced

    For the salad

    1 Sweeter Sorts grapefruit, sectioned

    1 ripe avocado, peeled and quartered

    1/2 cucumber, sliced and quartered

    Spring salad mix

    For the dressing

    1/4 cup freshly sqeezed grapefruit juice

    2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

    1 tbsp. red wine vinegar

    1 tsp. dijon mustard

    1/2 tsp. honey

    2 tbsp. fresh parsley, chopped

    Freshly ground salt & pepper to taste

    1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium high heat. Add the garlic and cook until light golden, about 2 minutes.

    2. Add the shrimp and lemon juice and cook, stirring occasionally until done (about 3-4 minutes). Set aside to cool.

    3. In a small bowl, whisk together the ingredients for the salad dressing. Let it sit for 10 minutes.

    4. In a large bowl combine the salad mix, cucumber, avocado grapefruit and shrimp.

    5. Drizzle with vinaigrette just before serving.

    1. Cut the fruit into bite size sections

    1/2 Sweeter Sorts grapefruit, segmented

    1/4 cup freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

    4 tsp. agave nectar

    1/4 cup of lime juice

    2 shots of rum

    15-20 fresh mint leaves, plus extra to garnish

    2 cups of ice

    1 cup sparkling water

    1. Muddle 4 grapefruit segments, agave nectar, lime juice and mint leaves in a Martini shaker.

    2. Add the grapefruit juice and rum to the shaker then fill 3/4 full with ice. Shake until very cold.

    3. Evenly divide between two glasses filled with ice. Top with sparkling water.

    4. Garnish with remaining grapefruit segments and mint leaves.

  • Strawberry, Orange & Grapefruit Smoothie

    1 Sweeter Sorts grapefruit

    1/2 cup freshly squeeze Sweeter Sorts orange juice

    1 cup frozen strawberries

    1 ripe banana peeled

    1/2 cup Greek yogurt

    1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

    1 tbsp. honey

    1. Slice off the bottom and top of the grapefruit, cutting through the peel and the pith, barely exposing the pulp. Cut off the outer peel the same way until you have a naked grapefruit. Slice it into thick rounds and remove any seeds.

    2. Place the grapefruit and the rest of the ingredients in a blender, blending until smooth.

  • Grapefruit Cake

    For the cake

    1 Sweeter Sorts grapefruit, segmented & juice reserved

    3 tbsp. freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

    3/4 cup + 1 tbsp. flour

    3/4 tsp. baking powder

    1/4 tsp. salt

    4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

    2/3 cup sugar

    1 egg, room temp

    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

    1/4 cup milk

    For the icing

    4 oz cream cheese, softened

    2 cups powdered sugar, more or less to taste

    1-2 tbsp. grapefruit juice

    1. Preheat the oven to 350F.

    2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

    3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat the egg and add, mixing until well combined. Add grapefruit juice and vanilla and beat until combined (make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl while mixing).

    4. Add half the dry ingredients and mix briefly to incorporate. Add milk and mix until just combined. Add the rest of the dry ingredients and mix until combined.

    5. Oil and line a 8.5" x 4.5" loaf pan. Place half of the grapefruit segments onto the bottom of the pan. Pour the batter over the segments evenly.

    6. Bake about 25 - 30 minutes. You can check by lightly pressing on the top, it will be done when it springs back. When done, let it cool on a cooling rack.

    7. To prepare the icing, combine the cream cheese, grapefruit juice and powdered sugar, whisk together.

    8. Once cooled, spread the icing over the cake. Top it off with the remaining grapefruit segments.

  • Broiled Grapefruit

    1 Sweeter Sorts Grapefruit

    4 tsp. light brown sugar, packed

    1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon


    1. Preheat your oven's broiler

    2. Cut the grapefruit in half, then trim a thin slice off the bottom so it sits level.

    3. With a small serrated knife or grapefruit spoon, cut around each grapefruit segment and remove any seeds.

    4. Place the grapefruit halves on a baking sheet lined with foil. Combine the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and sprinkle the sugar mixture over each half.

    5. Broil the grapefruit, until the tops are bubbling and golden brown (watch carefully). This takes about 7 to 10 minutes.

  • Grapefruit & Mint Vinaigrette

    1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil

    1/2 cup freshly squeezed Sweeter Sorts grapefruit juice

    2 tablespoons white-wine vinegar

    2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh mint

    1 teaspoon sugar

    Salt & freshly ground pepper to taste

    1. Whisk all of the ingredients together in a small bowl.

    2. Let stand for 10 minutes.

  • Avocado & Grapefruit Salsa

    1/2 Sweeter Sorts grapefruit, segmented and chopped

    1 ripe avocado, diced

    1/4 cup chopped red onion, diced

    1 tbsp. lime juice

    2 tbsp. jalapenos, seeded and minced

    2 tbsp. chopped cilantro

    Salt & ground black pepper to taste

    1. Combine all of the ingredients and gently toss

    2. Allow it to sit together for at least 30 minutes for flavors to combine

    3. Top off your favorite fish recipe with the salsa or add it to tacos. It also works great as an appetizer with chips.

  • Sparkling Grapefruit Cocktail

    1/2 cup freshly squeezed Sweeter Sorts grapefruit juice

    1/4 cup lime juice

    1/2 cup gin or vodka

    2 tbsp. simple syrup

    1/2 cup sparkling water

    Coarse sugar or salt

    Crushed ice

    Grapefruit wedges to garnish

    1. In a cocktail shaker, combine grapefruit juice, lime juice, liquor and simple syrup. Shake well.

    2. Rim cocktail glasses with juice and dip into sugar or salt to coat the rim.

    3. Fill glasses with crushed ice and add sparkling water to glasses, dividing evenly. Top off with the grapefruit mixture and garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

  • Grapefruit, Tangerine and Mint Infused Water

    1 Sweeter Sorts grapefruit, sliced and seeds removed

    2 Sweeter Sorts tangerines, sliced and seeds removed

    1 bunch of fresh mint leaves

    1/2 - 1 gallon of water

    Ice (optional)

    1. Wash the grapefruit, tangerine and mint leaves. Slice the fruit and add to the pitcher with water, mint leaves and ice.

    2. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes to an hour before serving.

    3. Stir and enjoy!

    (Lasts for 24 hours in the fridge)

  • Grapefruit Sorbet

    2 cups freshly squeezed Sweeter Sorts grapefruit juice

    1 tbsp. grapefruit zest

    1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

    1 1/4 cups water

    Mint to garnish (optional)

    1. Combine water, sugar in a saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar dissolves.

    2. Remove from heat, add zest and let cool. Once cool, cover and refrigerate for a couple of hours until thoroughly chilled.

    3. Add zest and mix well. Churn ice cream maker according to the manufacturers directions.

    4. Once done, serve right away or store in the freezer until ready to use.

    Tip: If you want to serve it in grapefruit bowls, scrape out the grapefruit halves you've juiced and put them in the freezer. Serve frozen with a scoop of sorbet and mint leaves.
