Orange Julius Smoothie

If you’ve never had an orange julius smoothie before, you’re in for a treat. This drink first originated back in 1926 by a man named Julius Freed. He dreamed he could create an orange flavored drink that was less acidic than a typical orange smoothie but just as delicious, and would one day make him famous- and he did! Well, maybe he didn’t actually dream it, we’ll never really know. All we know is that he created the first orange julius smoothie, and it was a hit. Now all of our dreams have come true. This simple frosty drink is always a hit in the warmer weather months. A splash of milk, a splash of honey, and of course, sweet, sweet oranges. A little patience with this recipe will be rewarded with a delicious, frosty, julius smoothie that is anything but historical. You will absolutely fall in love with this smoothie- don’t say we didn’t warn you.

ingredients

4 SweeterSorts oranges, skin peeled with knife
1/3 cup milk, your preference – regular, almond, soy, coconut
2 tbsp. honey (optional)
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups ice

instructions

1.Slice off the top and bottom of the orange, and skin the fruit: cutting through the peel and pith, just barely exposing the pulp. Cut away the rest of the peel and pith from the fruit until you have a naked orange. Do this for all four oranges. Cut in half and remove any seeds.

2.Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

You can put the naked oranges in the freezer for 40 minutes prior to making, just so they are chilled and beginning to freeze. If you do this, then you can use less ice or skip the ice all together
